BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy

In our office, we offer The BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator as way to non-invasively treat dermatological conditions. In combination with the Levulan Kerastick (aminolevulinic acid HCl) for Topical Solution, 20%, the BLU-U is indicated for the treatment of minimally to moderately thick actinic keratoses of the face or scalp.

The BLU-U is also specifically indicated to treat moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris.

XTRAC

Xtrac Laser is an ultraviolet light and is a common form of phototherapy used to treat skin diseases including Vitiligo, Psoriasis and Lichen Planus. This treatment is not a cure, but can effectively improve the severity of disease. Patients have used this form of therapy successfully for many years and are often able to achieve remission over extended periods of time. The laser is a form of UVB phototherapy that emits a single wavelength of UVB light, which eliminates other harmful UV rays. The laser targets only the affected areas of the body and does not expose healthy tissue to UV light.

Clinical studies have shown that the laser therapy may significantly improve skin disease within 10 treatments. This therapy may take up to 30 treatments to get skin disease under control. Most patients receive 2 treatments per week. Each individual will respond differently to UVB light and the total number of treatments needed and the time it takes to reach clearance will vary.

UVB Therapy (Light box)

UVB (ultraviolet b light) is the most common form of phototherapy used to treat various skin diseases including Psoriasis, Eczema, Vitiligo, and Pruritus. Patients are exposed to this high-energy ultraviolet light for varying length of time. As with XTRAC Laser, this treatment is not a cure, but can effectively control or improve skin disease. Each condition and patient will vary in the number of treatments needed per week and the time it will take to reach clearance. Most patients initially require 2-3 treatments each week to improve their skin disease. Typically, treatments start with only a few seconds of light exposure and increase gradually as determined by the staff and protocols. It may take 15-25 treatments or longer to improve a patient’s skin condition. Many patients go into remission and may then stop treatments.
